BATTLEFIELD TRAINING & SIMULATOR ENCHANCEMENTS
In 2004 AET was contacted to provide Special Effects Enhancements for a new United States Navy Training Center located north of Chicago. The $82.5 million project, Battle Stations 21, includes a Norfolk pier and a 210-foot-long replica of a guided missile destroyer enclosed in the 157,000 sq. ft. facility. In a totally immersive environment, recruits are trained in a variety of shipboard scenarios including flooding, firefighting and mass casualty rescue.
In association with the James McHugh Construction Co., the design/build general contractor, AET provided design, fabrication and installation supervision of the atmospheric and mechanical Special Effects and the associated Effects Control System used in the facility’s training simulations.
Drawing upon years of experience providing Special Effects and Show Action Equipment for Theme Parks and other entertainment venues, AET produced safe atmospheric and water effects to facilitate and enhance the training simulations required by the Navy. AET provided effects control, systems life safety and training data collection with an Overall Supervisor System (OSS), which also interfaces with the Training Management System (TMS) and Audio Video Lighting System (ALVS). With the experience and capabilities developed on the Battle Stations 21 project, the AET team stands ready to provide Battlefield Training & Simulator Enhancements for future training facilities.
